Meet Our International Admissions Staff

Kristi Marchesani, PhD

Director of International Recruitment and Admissions

Number of years in the Admissions Office: Started in January, 1999

Three fun facts about you:

  • I have traveled to 99 countries and all seven continents
  • I received my bachelor's and master's from UNI
  • I am a big Panther fan and go to all the UNI football, basketball and volleyball games

Your favorite part of working with International Admissions?:

I enjoy the opportunity to interact with people from all around the world and help students pursue their dream of a U.S. education. I think it is amazing to be able to meet a prospective student in their home country and then see them come to UNI, grow as a person, and then graduate as a proud alum.

Bryant Dowd

International Admission Counselor

Number of years in Admissions Office: Started in 2010

Three fun facts about you:

  • I was a big fan of the cartoon Scooby Doo and once dressed as a Scooby Man for Halloween
  • I've been bungee jumping in Costa Rica over water that is known to have crocodiles
  • I enjoy cooking and trying new recipes as a way to unwind after a long week

Your favorite part of working with International Admissions?

I'm passionate about providing access to higher education to international students. Having their perspective on life and learning is a big advantage for the UNI community. Not only am I able to learn information on new cultures, but I'm often given the opportunity to hear from the students' direct experiences. Also I enjoy working with a dynamic team to recruit international students to campus. Traveling around the world to share the benefits of UNI doesn't hurt either! :-)

Linda Jernigan

International Record Analyst

Number of years in the Admissions Office: Not really sure. The Human Resources Office shows that I started in Admissions in 1998. But that would only be 18 years, and I know that I have worked here longer than that. So I'm going to round that up to 20.

Three fun facts about you:

  • I have had horses during a good part of my life. I love horses and enjoying riding.
  • I got actor Kevin Bacon's autograph here on the UNI campus, and actress Annabeth Gish's autograph standing in line at Hy-Vee.
  • I ran into a UNI graduate while at an outdoor cafe in Salzburg, Austria.

Favorite part of working with International Admissions:

Being given the opportunity to meet people from all around the world and being able to help them though the many stages of the application process in order to be able to study in the U.S.

Three fun facts about you:

  • While working in Congress, I had the great honor of hearing President Nelson Mandela address a Joint Session of Congress in the U.S. House of Representatives in 1994.
  • I have a B.A. in English from UNI, and I studied in London as a study abroad student during my junior year of college.
  • I grew up on a farm and have been an animal lover ever since.

Your favorite part of working with International Admissions:

I love working with international students and helping to make their experience at UNI positive and successful. International students enrich our corner of the world, and they can gain the experience of a new culture and the academic life in the United States. My work with International Admissions is a constant reminder to me that we are all connected and we can all gain from our differences and similarities.
