Why did you decide to attend college in the United States? And why did you choose UNI?

I decided I wanted to go study in the U.S. when I first started thinking about where I went to college, seeing the number of opportunities available to students there. I chose UNI because the Curris Business School is very highly ranked internationally and the international student tuition was fairly reasonable here. Also because I received some very generous scholarships.

What do you like the most about UNI?

My favorite thing about UNI is the life on campus and the amazing people you get to meet. From small towns in Iowa to so many countries around the world! The teachers really seem to have a love for education and UNI really makes me feel like I’m headed in the right direction.

Do you participate in any on-campus organizations or activities?

I’m an active member of many on-campus organizations and clubs including the UNI Honors Student Society, International Student Association, the Model UN Club and the UNI Soccer club. I’m also a member on the Organization and Finance Committee of the Nothern Iowa Student Government.

Do you work on campus?

I started working on campus at one of the dining centers as soon as I started my fall semester in September. Surprisingly for me, it was extremely easy to get a job on campus and the UNI Job Board makes it even more convenient.

What is your favorite spot on campus?

I personally love the Maucker Union because I get to meet so many of my friends there everyday but on an outdoors kind of day, I love hanging out in the Lawther field.

What have you done to help make UNI your home away from home?

I started making a lot of friends as soon as I got here which really gave me a sense of familiarity on campus. I got involved in a bunch of student organizations and kept working to broaden my social circle as well as my horizons.

What is the one thing you would tell a new or prospective international student about attending a college in the United States?

Don’t be scared of change. It is inevitable and the sooner you adapt, the more rocking your college experience will be!

How has your academic experience been?

I particularly loved my academic experience at UNI. Most of my classes had very few students which let me get to know the professors better. Some of the classes offered here really affected my way of thinking and I think that is what education is really supposed to do.

How did you determine your major… i.e. did you take a class, consult with UNI programs, inspired by someone or something?

I came in as an Actuarial Science major but ended up changing after I took a few business and math classes. I also met my advisor who was very helpful and made me realize where my interest really lied.

Tell us about any great classes or professors that have helped, inspired or challenged you with determining your career path.

I took a Humanities III Honors class which really was the most informative class I’ve ever been in. Although it didn’t exactly help me decide my major, it did inspire me and made me realize that from here onwards, I have so much more to learn and so many miles to cover.
