Why did you decide to attend college in the United States? And why did you choose UNI?

The United States is known for its educational quality and UNI was the right size for it. Plus, I had met with the UNI alums prior to making my final decision about UNI. The feedback was great.

What do you like the most about UNI?

The professors! They are extremely helpful and are willing to go to any extent to help you out here at UNI. People in UNI are super friendly and do not show the difference between international and domestic students. They are always open to learning more about different cultures.

Do you participate in any on-campus organizations or activities?

Yes. International Student Promoters, International Student Association, Actuarial Club and The Rock Climbing Club. All these organizations hold many activities all year round on campus.

Do you work on campus?

Yes. I work two jobs. It is a perfect balance along with my studies. It is fun and I get to earn some money along with it.

What is your favorite spot on campus?

The third floor of the library and the book bistro. Yes! We have a bistro in the library.

What have you done to help make UNI your home away from home?

Get involved and make lots of friends. UNI houses great people.

What is the one thing you would tell a new or prospective international student about attending a college in the United States?

Don’t be shy or afraid about coming to a new place alone. Be open to options. It is a fantastic place to grow. UNI is a place where everyone belongs.

How has your academic experience been?

It has been on point. Together with work and extra curricular activities, I’ve always had time for studies and am doing really well.

How did you determine your major… i.e. did you take a class, consult with UNI programs, inspired by someone or something?

I love Mathematics and am extremely passionate about Statistics. Consulted an advisor and determined my major. It is okay to be undecided when you first come in. UNI has vast range of programs to choose from.

Tell us about any great classes or professors that have helped, inspired or challenged you with determining your career path.

Dr. Syed Kirmani from the Mathematics department is an extremely inspiring and supportive person. With such passion in his teaching, learning for students is not only easy but fun as well. I would like to be a professor like him some day.
